Church
At Mrs Ethelston’s, our village church, St Peter and St Paul’s, is central to our school’s ethos and spiritual life. The church plays a significant role in our daily rhythms; we are privileged to use the space several times each week for whole-school worship. We are fortunate to receive ongoing support from Reverend Nicky and the Open the Book team, who enrich our worship through storytelling and services that bring the Bible to life for our pupils.
Members of the church community generously contribute to school life, leading activities such as Christingle making and offering opportunities for reflection and celebration. Through worship and learning in the church, children grow in their understanding of core Christian values, including respect, inclusion and peace, while also gaining a deeper sense of spirituality and connection.
The church building itself provides an invaluable extension to our learning environment. It offers additional space for choir rehearsals, RE lessons and other activities, and has been particularly vital during times when our school has faced challenges with classroom capacity. The warm partnership with the church community has supported us through many difficult moments, including bereavements and illness.
Giving back to St Peter and St Paul’s is an important part of our relationship. Our Year 6 pupils host an annual coffee morning to raise funds for the church, and as a school we actively promote and attend key events throughout the church calendar in support of the wider parish community.
Together, Mrs Ethelston’s and St Peter and St Paul’s work hand in hand to nurture, support and inspire our children and families.
